Where are you from?  I was born in Orlando, Florida and lived there for 30 years. I then started relocating for various jobs throughout the country. I moved to Fort Mill in 2010. I’m married with 3 kids ages 15, 15, and 3.

Education?   I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor & Master in Criminal Justice.

Sports? I don’t follow, watch, or really care about any sports. I work out at the local Gym 214 here in downtown Fort Mill.

What company do you work for and what is your position? I started working for BHI Energy in 2016 as the Director for Employee Concerns. I manage all the retaliation allegations.

How did BHI Energy start? BHI began in 1979 as contract service provider of Radiation Protection (RP) and Decontamination workers to the nuclear power industry. Today BHI has expanded as one of the top 3 contractor services to the entire power services industry. We provide staffing for construction, maintenance, decommissioning, RP, and engineering/development for every major electrical utility in the US for wind, solar, fossil, and nuclear.

What do you do on a daily basis and why?  My work exclusively covers workers in the nuclear business units.  Employees who believe they are being retaliated against for raising concerns related to nuclear safety and quality may file a complaint with me and I conduct the investigation. I use the same legal standards as the Department of Labor and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission when evaluating the complaints.

What’s your past life? How did skills and background that got you here to where you are?   

I previously worked for the US Department of Labor OSHA, in the Office of Whistleblower Protection. I investigated complaints filed by workers who alleged retaliation for raising safety concerns to their employers. This experience made me well-prepared for my current position, except I now I work internally for a corporation.

What are your personal and professional goals? My goal is to eventually take this same program model and work my way into the healthcare industry. I want help major hospitals and medical service providers develop internal complaint/investigation departments that work to resolve concerns related to the medical staff. I believe there is a huge gap in that business world, and healthcare workers’ concerns are not being properly addressed.

Other than your work, what are you most passionate about? I love being outdoors and taking the family camping, skiing, and sightseeing all over the US. We’ve been to lots of places from the Carolina’s to California with many more to go…

Why did you initially come to LOOM?  After having a surprise pregnancy in 2017 my home office became a nursery, so I needed a place to go. I rented an office space at a couple of other places in town but was paying too much just to rent a small room that I was never in, (I traveled weekly prior to COVID). I am a full time, dedicated desk member, and LOOM offers a great price and easy setup for a work-from-home alternative.

How do you feel you have benefited or grown at LOOM?  I’ve made connections and gained insight into other fields of work outside my “nuclear bubble” that help expand my knowledge of the “rest of the world.”

What do you want to make sure to cover before we close? COVID has really taken a bite out of the budgets for the nations utility companies which means they have lost tons of revenue and are in turn, spending less money on updating their power plants. Despite these reductions, I am blessed to have remained gainfully employed and I am grateful for that. Always look for the positive in each situation and remember to consider that somewhere there is a person that would love to be sitting in your seat and doing your job.
