Who is Alex Hernandez? I was born and raised in Miami FL and moved to the Carolinas a couple years ago when my family decided to move. It was a huge change from living in a big city and took a bit to get used to. I’d say the only thing I miss from home is the Cuban food. I received my Associates Degree from Tallahassee Community College, then realized school was not for me and was not needed for my field. So, I taught myself and learned my trade.

I’ve always been interested in technology, from fixing phones, to developing systems for games I played. I got really into developing games and recently released my own game which got over 200k players. Since picking up that hobby, I knew I wanted to get into the tech world and become a developer.

Describe your company and who are your customers? I work for SPI (Secure Process Intelligence), an innovation technology (IIoT) company located in Fort Mill as a Full Stack Developer. We provide companies with a way to monitor their instruments without having to go out on the field or worry about what could go wrong if no one is monitoring it. We work in many fields such as waste water, oil companies, or basically anything that needs sensors. 

What brought you to LOOM and how do you feel you have benefited from coworking? I started as an intern with SPI for a year and learned how the business works, how I can provide my skills to help the business grow, and eventually hired as a full-time employee.

I’ve been enjoying my time here. It doesn’t feel like a normal 9-5 corporate job, it’s more family-friendly and I feel like my work here really makes a difference. I feel LOOM offers a very comfortable space where one can just focus on work. Everyone here is very friendly and helps keep the atmosphere nice and enjoyable.
