Member Spotlight – Erik Severson

We are incredibly proud of all of our LOOM Coworking members and love seeing their growth, personally and professionally. Learn more about Erik Severson!

Who is Erik Severson? I grew up in a small town in Minnesota and went to college at Gustavus Adolphus College.  I married Kyra in 2006 and after a couple more years living in Minneapolis we decided it was time to escape the cold winters and move somewhere warmer. We initially thought the Charlotte area would be a temporary stop, but 15 years later we are still here and really love the community. We have an amazing 11 year old son and a couple of ridiculous dogs – they all keep us grounded and entertained.

Describe your company and who are your customers?  I work for a small tech company called 540. Our mission is to help the federal government #getshitdone. A majority of our work is with the Department of Defense and ranges from data strategy to Air Force training programs.  I am currently helping the DoD build an API program to promote and facilitate data sharing between the branches of the military. After spending a lot of years in the fintech world it is exciting to have so many new challenges and technologies to learn.

Other than your work, what are you most passionate about? Our family is very passionate about health and fitness. You will often find us at a local crossfit gym or out on a trail getting fresh air and movement. We keep a sauna and ice bath in the garage and try to “enjoy” those on a daily basis. My son is very involved with soccer and basketball, so most evenings you will find us at one of his activities. I have also been a Big Brother through the Big Brother/Big Sister program for almost 10 years and am so lucky to see my “little brother” grow into a wonderful young man.

What initially brought you to LOOM and how have you benefited from coworking? Full-time remote work can get lonely and monotonous. I have found I am at my best when I mix up working locations and spend some time outside of the house. I’m not always social while working at LOOM, but just having other people around gives me extra energy and a sense of peace. I love walking up to Olive’s Mud Puddle for coffee or Good Life for a smoothie…and I love being surrounded by beautiful art while I work.

What is the best way to connect with you? I don’t do social media, but am happy to connect via LinkedIn or email (etseverson@gmail.com).  Or come find me in my regular corner at LOOM 😊
